Small Steps Create Big Shifts
I’ve been thinking about routines lately and how much of our lives are actually built around them. Some are intentional, like working out, taking supplements, drinking water, or starting the morning with God. Others somehow became routines without ever being invited, like checking our phones 47 times a day or walking into a room and having absolutely no idea why we went in there. Maybe that last one is just me.
The interesting thing about routines is that they are supposed to serve us, but I’m not sure we stop very often to ask if they still do. We tend to think that if we want something in our life to change, we need to make a BIG change. We’re going to never do this again, and always do that, and the list is so BIG that we don’t do any of it (or at least more than 2 days).
What I’ve learned is that some of the biggest shifts in my life have come from doing something small consistently. Adding a 20-minute Reset to my day is one of them. I put my bare feet on the device, choose the strength, and let frequency do its thing while I’m doing mine. I can work, have a conversation, watch TV, read, or actually sit there and relax. That last option was a work in progress as someone who has spent most of her life believing that sitting still must surely mean there is something I’ve forgotten to do.
Maybe that’s worth considering with any routine: Is this serving the person I want to become, or am I simply doing it because I’ve always done it? We don’t necessarily need to overhaul our lives to change them. Sometimes we just need to introduce one small thing that supports us differently and give it enough consistency to see what happens. For me, that’s at least one 20-minute Reset a day. It turns out that adding something to my routine that actually helps me handle my routine might be one of the smarter things I’ve done. It’s been almost a year, and no regrets!
